Talk:VOCJ Index

Please use this page to dicuss ideas on how to go about creating and organizing some sort of VOCJ index. My initial idea was to create a page for each topic (i.e. Mt. Garibaldi, Lillooet Icefield, recipies, etc.) and then to put references to individual articles onto each page. This will result in some overlap however, as some articles may be referenced by multiple topics and the information about that article would be duplicated. To fix this we cold have a unique page for each article, but this would make for a hell of a lot of wiki pages.

Oh, and I do recall someone starting this project last year - does anyone remember who it was?

There is an existing index of VOCJ in printed format, but it only covers VOCJs up to the 70s or maybe early 80s. The format used was to first divide things into major geographic areas (I think there were about 7) and then to list place names (mountains, ranges, etc) alphabetically for each of these list the year in which a relevant article appears (and perhaps the page number).

I propose we follow a similar format. There is no point in creating tons of individual pages initially. If things become too crowded on a single page, we can easily do some cutting/pasting to fix it up when needed. We could have the table of contents for some of the journals in seperate pages. These could then be linked from the index (and other places).

I'll try to put a few things down to demonstrate the idea. At first, maybe I won't divide things into geographic areas. After we too much stuff we can think about it...

Renamed the page VOCJ index. I think the Online in the former title VOCJ Online Index was a bit redunded. Also I think the small i here is the way to go...
