Talk:Online Mapping

This website generates maps from the BC trim data. They apparently are able to create iMapBC style maps automatically by using URLs such as this one: [1]. It also looks like you can choose what layers you want etc. Uhh, here is the url: http://libcwms.gov.bc.ca/wmsconnector/com.esri.wsit.WMSServlet/ogc_layer_service?VERSION=1.1.0&request=GetMap&SRS=EPSG:4326&BBOX=-122.72,50.608080568395,-122.64,50.645&WIDTH=891&HEIGHT=648&LAYERS=TRIM_EBM_OCEAN,TRIM_EBM_WATERBODIES,TRIM_EBM_WATERCOURSES,TRIM_EBM_WETLANDS,TWTR_LINES,TTRN_LINES,TCVR_POINTS,TCTR_LINES,TTRN_POINTS,TSRF_POINTS,TCTR_POINTS,WHSE_BASEMAPPING.TRIM_TEXT_ANNO,TWTR_ANNO,TTRN_ANNO,TSRF_ANNO,TMISC_ANNO,TCVR_ANNO,TCUL_ANNO,TCTR_ANNO,NTS_BC_COASTLINE_POLYS_125M,NTS_BC_RIV_LAKE_WET_POLYS_125M,NTS_BC_COASTLINE_LINES_125M,NTS_BC_CONTOUR_LINES_125M,NTS_BC_MANMADE_LINES_125M,NTS_BC_TRANSPORT_LINES_125M,NTS_BC_TRANSPORT_POINTS_125M,NTS_BC_WATER_POINTS_125M,NTS_BC_LANDFORM_POINTS_125M,BC_RIV_LAKE_WET_POLYS_500M,BC_WATER_LINES_500M,BC_TRANSPORT_LINES_500M,BC_PROV_BOUNDARIES_LINES_500M,BC_MANMADE_LINES_500M,BC_MAJOR_CITIES_POINTS_500M,BC_WATER_POINTS_500M,BC_TRANSPORT_POINTS_500M,BC_SPOT_ELEVATION_POINTS_500M,BC_MANMADE_POINTS_500M,BC_WATER_POLYS_5KM,BC_BASEMAP_LINES_5KM_water,BC_BASEMAP_LINES_5KM_transport,BC_BASEMAP_LINES_5KM_boundary,DBM_7H_MIL_POPULATION_POINT,DBM_7H_MIL_BOUNDARIES_LINE,DBM_7H_MIL_DRAINAGE_LINE,DBM_7H_MIL_DRAINAGE_POLY,DBM_7H_MIL_ROADS_LINE,DBM_7H_MIL_PARK_POLY,DBM_7H_MIL_POLITICAL_POLY_PS,DBM_7H_MIL_POLITICAL_POLY_BC,DBM_7H_MIL_BATHYMETRIC_POLY,&STYLES=&FORMAT=PNG
Guess the location! Scott Webster 22:45, 26 July 2007 (PDT)
- Phelix creek unless I'm very much mistaken. Did you find any instructions for using the libcwms.gov.bc.ca site? I seem to run into a lack of permissions or an admin login. -- Matthew 02:15, 27 July 2007 (PDT)
- Don't have any instructions...the URL looks reasonably straightforward though... just change the BBOX in decimal degrees for location, change the width and height for resolution. Yes, it is Phelix :) Scott Webster 09:51, 27 July 2007 (PDT)
- There is a link to the implementation specification on this page. This URL I believe returns the capabilities of the service, but in some XML format, presumably described in the implementation PDF (page 21ish). Scott Webster 16:49, 27 July 2007 (PDT)
- I haven't been able to figure out a UTM grid layer unfortunately. If you google for libcwms.gov.bc.ca the first link is a mailing list post regarding the servers. There is also a libcows.gov.bc.ca server. I'm basically posting the results of my investigations here, I haven't come to any particular conclusions. Scott Webster 17:41, 28 July 2007 (PDT)
- A bunch of layers are listed here. Most of the layers that we are reqesting seem to be listed on that site. There isn't much info but at least there is a human decipherable name for each layer. Scott Nelson 14:51, 22 February 2008 (PST)
Importing csv waypoints file to imapbc
I used to be able to get this to work. Now with the new version of imapbc I can't. It says it has imported the waypoints but they do not appear on the map. I've tried using lat/lng and utm, with various permutations of column format. Has anyone successfully imported a list of waypoints recently? --Matthew 18:21, 3 August 2007 (PDT)
iMapBC
Has anyone noticed that iMapBC is labelling waaaaayy too many contours (with their elevations) now? Here is a ludicrous example [2]. Scott Webster 22:44, 26 January 2008 (PST)
iMapBC just pushed live a new version - unfortunately it doesn't fix the ridiculous hyperactive contour line labeling problem, but they have added "External Map Visualization", which lets you load a google map / earth / yahoo map of the area you were looking at in iMapBC, and vice versa - example [3]. I was really hoping this would give a way to link to a specific location in iMapBC, which could be quite useful, but unfortunately it uses javascript to send the location back to iMapBC --Matthew 22:16, 29 February 2008 (PST)
