Thumbnails Not Working
Someone needs to fix the thumbnails here. The Wiki code is correct, but the server isn't generating the thumbs properly, it seems. Ktims
Thanks for the heads up. I'm looking into it. The thumbnail is generated using an external program ("convert", part of the ImageMagick toolkit) but this doesn't seem to be installed at our new provider. The old thumbnails (e.g. on the Brew Hut pages) still work because they were generated before the move to the current provider.

Just to follow up on this, I haven't had any luck getting a decent response from our hosting company. Their customer service is really crappy (though you can't blame them at the price we pay!). Anyways, I may end up moving us to a new provider (again...). If we move, I'll pick someone who also supports mod_rewrite which will allow "pretty URLs" for the wiki (aka www.ubc-voc.com/wiki/Page_Name or we might even go with wiki.ubc-voc.com/Page_Name). However it'll probably take a little while to getting the move done. I should probably get some kind of agreement in principle from the exec to spend the additional moneys before doing anything...

I've just been playing around with my own Mediawiki site, and from browsing the [documentation] it seems that disabling $wgUseImageMagick
will use the built-in PHP image functions (which also depend on the PHP GD module), which is probably worth a shot before migrating to another provider, at least.

Page Split?
Also, perhaps this should be split into separate Winter/Summer (Hiking/Skiing) pages? Once ski content is added for the Neve and around the general area, the article could grow to an unruly size? --Ktims 01:57, 7 May 2005 (MST)
I think careful presentation of the information is the best approach instead of splitting into multiple pages. There are already existing pages for the Garibaldi Neve traverse and the Burton Hut.

I agree with Scott that we shouldn't hesitate to make specific pages for things that deserve them. However, I also agree that it is nice to have a single page that gives an overview of what's available in an area. It's nice if this overview is not just a simple list of relevant pages. Therefore, one idea is to have a "Garibaldi Park" page that might give short mention of lets say the Neve traverse and provide a link to the full article. If you have a look at the Wikipedia pages for countries this is how they are laid out. There will be a section about "Economics of Canada" that will provide a short overview and a link to a page with all the details.
PS: Great work on this page Ktims!
