Talk:Climbing in Sinai
Does this page belong on the VOC wiki? I'm not sure it makes sense to put lots on information about overseas climbing/hiking/skiing/whatever destinations into the VOCwiki in general. Certainly it's a good way for people to share their experience with others in the club, but where do you draw the line? Personally I feel that these kinds of pages are useful, but some sort of distinction needs to be made so wiki readers don't arrive at this page expecting a rock climbing destination that they can drive to. Maybe it could be categorized under Overseas destinations or something like that to avoid confusion with the domestic Category:Rock Climbing Trips What do you think? Scott Nelson
Same here, I don't believe that we need such a page on the wiki. The probability of someone actually going climbing to Sinai from the club is extremely slim to none. The VOC wiki is based around the club, its various activities and pertinant information related to it. Climbing at Sinai just doesn't properly fit into that image. I back the comment from Scott Nelson on this. Champagne 01:20, 17 November 2006 (MST)
I don't think we are running out of server space or anything, so I don't really see a problem with this being on the wiki. I agree that the chance of it being used is lower than for closer destinations, but realistically, it's probably faster to get to some overseas destinations by air than to drive a million hours to places in the US like the club does. The Rock Climbing Trips (more bad capitalization?) page has categories for "road trips" and "on campus," and an "exotic locales" section could easily be added. Interestingly, there is no info on Squamish. In general, I think we should encourage others to work on the wiki wherever they have a passion, not just where we think it is most important. Clearly there is some stuff that we don't want on this wiki, but I think this is fine. Scott Webster 10:41, 17 November 2006 (MST)
I agree with Webster, keep the page, it doesn't hurt anyone, is interesting, and may be practically useful. Even if no one from the club uses the page, someone else may find it via google and be happy and send good vibes our way. Chris Michalak 17:25, 17 November 2006 (MST)
