The route up to Hanging Lake has one unavoidable difficult section - a 35 to 40 degree slope in the forest. Furthermore, the easiest way up requires doing a couple kick turns above a small cliff, albeit on a gentler angle. I'd say that overall it's harder, but shorter, than the infamous "beginner slayer" trail to the Brian Waddington Hut. Strong "survival skiing" skills will get you through in one piece. Are we supposed to camp in the watershed? Is that the plan for this trip? I've never figured out what the "real rules" are. Maybe the VOC should come up with some sort of "recommendation" for their trips. Scott Webster 13:38, 10 February 2009 (PST)

I think camping in the watershed falls into the same category as snowmobiling in the watershed - you are not supposed to do it but it is technically not prohibited. Rainbow Lake is outside the RMOW boundary, so Whistler bylaws do not apply. There's a developed campground at hanging lake which is supposed to encourage people to camp there instead of at Rainbow Lake. There's probably an outhouse somewhere, but I've never seen it since I've only been there in winter. Maybe it's possible to find it this year. There is also an outhouse on the NE side of Rainbow Lake near the outlet, but it's tricky to find in winter. Scott Nelson 14:01, 10 February 2009 (PST)
