Overview
In summer 2006 there was some interest in learning some basic map and compass skills. So Rueben Schulz and a couple of exec put together a one-day course. It consists of about two hours of theory in the VOC clubroom followed by a field trip to Jericho Park, where a course was set up. To get to the end of the course students must apply the skills they learned at the morning session. There is no fee for this course. Students receive a handout to accompany the theory session, and a course handout with a map for the field session. Students should bring a compass (with adjustable declination if possible), a pen, and appropriate clothing for the weather. Transportation to Jericho Park will be by bicycle or bus (#4 to Wallace).
If you're super-keen and want to check out the handout Rueben and Christian wrote this summer Christian converted it to pdf and put it on the physics webspace. Be warned that there was some formatting messed up a bit in the conversion... The actual handout will be printed from a more capable computer.
