Description:

I might change this trip to Spearhead, still deciding

Total Distance / Elevation:
 25km / 2000m

2 day mission camp at Coin Lake and summit next day. Page 221 of Baldwin.

Description stolen from Declan:

Mount Jimmy Jimmy sits at the N end of the Tantalus, a rocky high point poking out of a small icefield that divides the Squamish River and the Sunshine Coast. I want to go for a ski and take in some views!

Plan is highly weather dependent, but ideally we could camp at Coin Lake, maybe even ski a lap off Coin Peak in the evening. Then we might wake up early to climb to the summit, ski back to camp, pack up, and ski back to the cars.

This trip is not super technical, but approaches ski moutaineering. There is potential for a bushy approach, a bit of moderately steep (> 35) skiing, gentle (class 2, but snowy/icy) scrambling or bootpacking, and lots of glacier travel and complex avalanche terrain. Ideally it is not your first experience with *all* of these things, but please contact me with questions! Trip participation will aim to blend experience levels, in addition to who can drive, and the signup order.

No pre-trip meeting. Wednesday morning I will send out an email to all those on the interested list with a whatsapp group invite link. We can discuss logistics there.

Requirements:

  • AST-1 or equivalent
  • Glacier travel experience
  • You are able to participate in the decision-making process
  • This is not your first day skiing in the backcountry
