Description:
Let's camp atop Cloudburst!
This trip is beginner-friendly but not easy. Prerequisites: avalanche training (AST1), can ski down blue runs in all conditions, have camped before. This trip will be a good first experience winter camping for those new to it.
The plan... We will leave Vancouver on Friday after lunch (for religious reasons). We'll drive to Squamish, then continue up the road as high as we can. We will start hiking up the rest of the road with our skis on our backpacks. At the top of the road we will do some bushwacking—expect a short bit of suffering. When we get to enough snow, we'll transition to skinning. Eventually, we'll probably be somewhere nice in the alpine, and we'll set up camp and cook a nice late dinner. On Saturday, we'll ski to the summit, then head back to Vancouver. Expect to get home Saturday evening.
The trip will be postponed or cancelled if there is high avalanche danger or poor weather. I'd like to go when there will be a nice view.
The mandatory pre-trip meeting will be Wednesday at 8:15 pm in the clubroom. If you want to come on the trip but can't make the pre-trip meeting, send me an email. You can find my email by clicking my name at the top of this page. You can also email me with any questions. :)
The limitation on group size will be car spots. If you have friends with cars, encourage them to join!
