Description:
World Wildlife Fund Canada (WWF) has been hosting the iconic Climb For Nature event in CN Tower for oh so many years, and last year they finally made the move to Vancouver. It was an awesome event, and I very much recommend taking part like I did last year – either by running, volunteering or donating. While I might wind up being out of the country for this, I wanted to make sure people know this is happening and can register as they please.
So, here are the details:
Date: May 10th 2025
Place: BC Place (yes, the stadium. It’s awesome)
Time: depends on your estimated speed, and whether you’re volunteering or running
How to sign up: https://fundraisers.wwf.ca/event/climb-for-nature-vancouver/home
How it works: Run up and down the steps in the bowl of BC Place while being cheered on by spectators, volunteers, other runners and WWF staff. You may even wind up on national TV. That's it. Simple as ever.
This year they added a fundraising minimum of $50. If you sign up, feel free to send me an email with your fundraising link and I will post it in this very trip description to gently nudge your fellow VOCers to donate for a good cause.
If enough interest is gaged, I’d be happy to create an official VOC team for this! Send me an email if you’re interested, or use the sign-up tool to see whether your fellow VOCers will join you!
Why you should consider running:
- It’s a fun workout, I know some of y’all love the Wreck Beach VK so no excuses
- You get to go to BC Place for very little money and run up and down the steps without being told off by security
- You can race your friends (volunteers will be measuring your speed) and brag about your time
- You’re supporting an insanely good cause, WWF is working on lots of BC-specific policies (e.g. underwater noise to save whales, need I even say more?)
- You just might get to meet professional athletes (including Olympians if you’re lucky)
- You get a cool T-Shirt with your time on it
For people who don’t want to or can’t run, a few weeks in advance they will be posting signups for volunteers (will add link here once it’s posted). I did it last year and it was incredible!
Why you should consider volunteering:
- you get experience in the area you sign up for (e.g. registration, customer service, marketing), which is both fun, serves as professional development and could look good on your CV if you care about that
- you can network with industry experts (I had wonderful conversations with the CEO, a marine biologist, and an Olympian last year)
- you get to spend a day in BC Place surrounded by amazing people and other sweaty runners
- you get a T-Shirt, goodies (socks, frisbee, beeswax etc.) and refreshments
- you’re also supporting an amazing cause but without exerting yourself
Send me an email if you have any questions or want to set up a VOC team!
