Description:

update: trip postponed!

With summer in full swings and so many bike trips on the agenda, it's time to bring back this workshop to set you up for all of your two-wheeled adventures!

In this workshop we'll be covering the basics of bike maitenance to give you the confidence to take on the roads and trails and fix the most common bike failures along the way. I first learned about bikes and bike touring from one of these workshops a few years ago and would love to pass on the knowledge and stoke. Kai Schwarz (bike man extraordinaire, main instructor) and myself (casual bike enthusiast, not as much as Kai) will be hosting this workshop. Guess how many bikes Kai has ever owned for a chance to win a secret prize (those who already know the answer don't qualify)

The topics covered will depend on the group of people who show up and what they want to learn. We're hoping to answer your questions one by one, whether it's the most basic or more advanced stuff.

Some topics you could expect to be covered:

- Basic bike anatomy. What are the different parts on a bicycle called and what do they do?

- How to run road-side diagnostics when something goes wrong

- Wheels (types of flat tires, how to avoid them, and how to fix them)

- Drivetrain (cleaning and lubricating the chain, derailleur adjustment, etc)

- Brakes (types, barrel adjustment)

- Information and Q&A about self-propelled adventures (bike touring vs bikepacking vs bike camping, types of bikes, gear, planning, route finding, community, etc)

This workshop will be held at Heather Park (on West 18th & Heather St.), on Wednesday July 10th, starting at 6:30pm.

Feel free to bring a blanket or camp chair, your bike, a beverage or snacks, and all of your bike-related questions. If you're thinking of getting more into biking or planning your first bikepacking trip, this will be a great opportunity to meet some folks and find resources.

There will be no pre-trip meeting, just show up as you are!
