Description:

Breka, Boat, Bowen, Boat (again)... beer? If any of these strike your fancy, join me on a day's riding around Bowen Island.

The route is inspired by a community ride hosted by Enroute and MAAP on Saturday, Oct 15.

From Breka on 4th, we'll ride to Horseshoe Bay (you're welcome to join en route) to catch the 10:15 ferry. After exploring the hilly terrain on Bowen, we'll catch a ferry back to Horseshoe Bay before returning to UBC area (again, you're welcome to peel off wherever convenient).

Key Stats (Route)

  • ~145km
  • ~2,400m elevation gain
  • All paved roads

Requirements:

  • Road/gravel bike
  • Brain bucket/helmet/noodle protection
  • Appropriate clothing and shoes (trip will run with light rain. Forecasted downpours will be evaluated until the day before)
  • Tools to change a tire, fix simple mechanicals. We can pool tools at pre-trip if desired.
  • Food + water, we can make pitstops for extra food on Bowen too :)
  • Stoke and appetite for type 1.5 fun

The out and back nature of the route makes it plausible to enjoy sections of the ride without being completed committed to the route. I hope to finish the whole route but there is always the option to revaluate group sentiment at intervals throughout the day. No minimum speed requirement :)
