Access

Take the new Callaghan Valley Road and park at the Callaghan Country Parking Lot near Alexander Falls. There is a sign that says "customer parking only" but there should be a couple of plowed spots before the sign that you can use. Backcountry skiers get free use of the Callaghan FSR road (which is groomed for XC skiing) to access Callaghan Lake provincial park. This only applies if you are on AT or Telemark skis, not nordic skis.

Route

Follow "Mainline" trail for 8.5km to Callaghan Lake. It's signed as 9km, but it's really 8.5. It takes 1.5-2 hours to get to the Lake. There is good skiing terrain on the west and north sides of the lake.

Hazards

  1. Thin ice on Callaghan Lake
  2. Avalanche hazard in yoyo ski areas. The main road to Callaghan Lake is not threatened by avalanche terrain.
